The route west from the village follows the sandy tracks around Oldbury Hill and Raspit Hill. The meandering woodland tracks contrast with the next part of the ride through orchards, estates and neat countryside around Ightham Mote and Fairlawne. The third distinctive feature in the ride is the long sweet chestnut coppiced section through Mereworth Woods.
